About the Cake Designer
 |
One of the most distinguishing
factors of Butterfly Cakes is the passion founder Sonya Hong
has for making cakes and the professional approach she brings
to the business. Having spent the first part of her career working
as a lawyer in a corporate law firm, Sonya's life-long love of
baking and arts and crafts finally found a place to blossom when
she began studying cake-making at the California Culinary Academy.
After several more years of professional culinary arts training
in cakes, she launched Butterfly Cakes.
Sonya draws inspiration
for her cake designs from many sources, including fashion,
textiles, china and interior design. Her artistic talents are
rooted in her blood, as her mother is an avid water color and
oil painter in New Jersey and her aunt is an acclaimed professional
artist in Seoul, Korea. Her law background has equipped her
with extremely high standards for attention to detail and client
service. This combination of artistic and business skills makes
for a uniquely pleasant and stress-free cake-ordering experience! |
Sonya grew up in New Jersey and
received a bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1991 and a
law degree from New York University in 1994. She is a member of the
New York and California bars and has practiced law at private firms
in New York and San Francisco. She lives in San Francisco with her
husband David and their son Ethan. |
